Located on the Pacific coast in Eastern
Hokkaido, Kushiro City is blessed with magnificent nature that includes two
national parks, that is, Kushiro Shitsugen National Park and Akan National
Park. It has continued to achieve
unbroken development while taking charge of leading social, economic and
cultural functions as the hub of Eastern Hokkaido.
With abundant agricultural
production centering on dairy farming, forestry with profuse resources,
fisheries that boast one of the largest catches in Japan and so forth, Kushiro
can be referred to as a food base in Japan.
While we are striving to establish a safe, secure, high-quality food
supply system, we are also promoting comprehensive undertakings to conserve the
natural environment and create a recycling-oriented society with the ultimate
goal of realizing an environment-friendly city.
In addition, marimo, algae
balls, and red-crowned cranes, both of which are special national treasures,
inhabit our city. We will capitalize on
these attractive local resources and spread the name of Kushiro around the
world as a city of international tourism that is in harmony with the
environment.
To ensure that our city
will continue to make further leaps into the future, we are committed to aiming
at having “Kushiro as the hub of Eastern Hokkaido brimming with vitality where
abundant natural blessings merge with industry.”
Mayor of Kushiro
